Dear
Members
Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Assalamo-alaikum and Noa’ia e mau’ri.
On behalf of the Executives and the Secretariat of the Fiji Medical
Association, I would like to wish you all a happy new year! 2021 has been one
of the most challenging years in our lives collectively and moving forwards
into 2022 the situation will not get any easier. Our beloved Nation thanks you,
the healthcare heroes for going above and beyond your calling in 2021 and more
of the same may be required in 2022. As we all reflect on the year that has
been, we must conserve and reboot our energy and enthusiasm levels to tackle
the third wave of COVID. We will once again need you to stand up and lead our
nation through another challenging period. We pray to the Almighty to give you
the physical, mental, and spiritual toughness to answer your calling and
continue to champion the health of our nation.
Not all was bleak in 2021. Despite the economic challenges, no civil
servant, including Doctors had to be laid off for economic reasons or have our
salaries reduced. This was and is indeed a blessing and a recognition to the
contribution all have made towards our beloved Nation. We also got to celebrate
our second Olympic Gold medal courtesy of our Men’s 7s team and to add icing to
the cake, our Fijiana 7s brought back a bronze! The lockdowns and restrictions
allowed many to bond as a family and strengthen that sacred relationship we
have with our loved ones. We learnt the importance of having backyard gardens
and we learnt to cut down on wastages. Working from home became the new norm
and it is amazing how much we can achieve working smarter from home. Let us
take these invaluable lessons into 2022 and once again be model citizens
championing good health behavior.
Vinaka vakalevu, Khuda Hafiz, Daniyabaad and Fa’eksia.
